Herb Bread

Hey there! Welcome to my blog.
This is going to be a place for me to share my most recent crafts and cooking adventures. I hope that you'll follow and keep up with any recipes or tutorials that I post.

A few weeks ago I tried out an herb bread recipe out of a gardening book, and of course, I made a few changes. It turned out great, so I thought it would be a nice thing to kick off this
blog with.

Herb Bread

1 tbsp. yeast
1 cup warm water
2 tbsp. of chopped onions
1 1/2 cups of milk
4 tbsp. of olive oil (vegetable or canola oil are okay)
1 tbsp. of honey
1 teaspoon of salt [this is a very low salt recipe, so salt to taste]
1 large eggs
5 cups of flour
Herbs of your choice [my herbs are all garden fresh, but store or market bought herbs are fine too. I used 4 tbsps of Rosemary and about 3-4 tbsps of sage.]

Begin by adding yeast to  warm water, let sit for five to ten minutes. Meanwhile sauté onions in a pan. Also, heat up milk in a saucepan (do not let boil). Pour milk into a large bowl. Add the yeast/water mixture to the warm milk, mix. Add olive oil, honey, salt and eggs. Stir until thoroughly mixed. Stir in flour bit by bit.

Transfer dough to a countertop, or cutting board. Before kneading you should sprinkle your herbs and onions on top of the dough.

Knead the dough (look up directions on kneading if you are unsure. This is a very important process, so please be sure to read about it before attempting the bread!)

Place kneaded dough in an oiled bowl. Cover with plastic wrap (or a towel) and let rise for 1 hour. After the hour, punch down the dough and form into two loaves.

Let loaves rise for 45 minutes. Bake the bread at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Let cool, and then slice and serve with butter. And Enjoy!

I hope that you all like the recipe. If you try it, let me know how it goes, maybe link me to a picture? I would love to see how it turns out.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Love this and your bread was a smashing accomplishment-delicious, just the right amount of herbs, excellent consistency, and beautiful too.
